Take a Trip to the Metro Richmond Zoo. Depending on which location you are coming from in correlation to the Richmond area, the Metro Richmond Zoo is only a few miles away. Located in Mosely, Virginia, the Metro Richmond Zoo provides a wide variety of animals. In addition to providing animals for viewing purposes, there are several animals with which you can interact.

At the Metro Richmond Zoo, you can feed and pet a number of animals, including a herd of giraffes. There are only a few zoos that allow a giraffe to eat right out of your hand, and this is one of them. The giraffe’s almost 20 inch tongue allows the giants to reach the zoo treats right out of your hand. In addition to giraffes, a retired trail horse, many barnyard animals, and an antelope. If you enjoy rides, the Metro Richmond Zoo provides a Safari Sky Ride, Jungle Carousel, and car rides for kids. The Safari Sky Ride is a 15 minute ride from high above that provides a scenic view of the zoo, including all the animals and some of the different sites. Each rider must pay three dollars, although children under two are free. For a dollar less, two dollars, riders can enjoy the Jungle Carousel. The kid cars and the kid carousel are available for a minimal charge.

As a gift to the community, the Metro Richmond Zoo presents the Miracle of Christmas live at the zoo. This includes a live re-enactment of the Christmas story complete with animals from the zoo. Local churches and performing arts groups supply the live music before and after each pageant. Furthermore, each pageant is approximately 20 minutes long with three presentations each night during the few nights before Christmas. During this time, admission and parking are both free.

The zoo is open year-round, although there are a few days that the zoo is closed. With prices under $10 for every age, everyone in the family can enjoy the animals and activities located at the zoo.
